Film less radiology reading rooms
Radiologists read X rays, digital images, ultrasounds of the patients and then interpret to diagnose and treat the disease. They also consult physicians and help them decide the course of action. Most radiologists are in radiology reading rooms, interpreting images and reading reports. Unlike other physicians, their interaction with patients on a daily basis is minimal.
Like other areas, technology has proven to be a boon for this field also. New imaging machines and radiological equipments are there which use new technologies. PACS is the latest in this field. PACS is an acronym for picture archiving and communication system. These are servers which store, retrieve and present images. Orthopedic PACS help orthopedic surgeons in analyzing, archiving and pre operative planning.
Medical industry generates lot of wastes. Among them is radiology waste which involves a huge amount of x ray films, spoiled or used. Earlier, X ray was such a time consuming process, which was, at times, taken multiple times if the film was lacking clarity. When all over the efforts are on to reduce or recycle wastes, PACS is highly relevant as it has reduced the need of manual filing and retrieval of X- ray films. X-ray film recycling can be done by several X ray film handlers, which recycle spoiled or used X ray films.
